Power Plate is one of the most efficient training devices in the world, based on technology developed by the Russian space program and backed by 40 years of clinical research. Through vibration, instability is created in the body producing a workout that's 4X more efficient than a typical workout. Holding a 30 second plank is equivalent to 2 minutes - a 15 minute workout equals 1 hour at the gym!
What is the Power Plate and Accleration Training?
The technology behind Power Plate was developed for Soviet cosmonauts in the 1960s to combat bone and muscle loss caused by zero gravity conditions in space. With the use of vibration, the cosmonauts were able to set a staggering record of 420 days in space, while Americans returned home after 120. An Olympic trainer adapted the technology for elite athletes in 1999. More than 180 studies have been published on the benefits of whole body vibration.
How Does Vibration Technology work?
Power Plate creates instability through vibration, forcing the body to perform reflexive muscle actions, multiple times per second. These contractions must work in multiple dimensions as the Power Plate oscillates in all three planes, exactly as the human body is designed to do. The result is an incredible improvement in mobility, balance, stability, core strength, muscle strength, endurance and power!
What Exercises Can Be Done on Power Plate?
Although Power Plate exercises seem the same as those done at the gym (like squats or lunges) or in yoga or Pilates class (like tree pose or plank), performing them on a Power Plate means you're actually doing 4X the work and burning 4X the calories! Vibration creates acceleration in your body, which increases the amount of force imposed on your body - so the work load is dramatically increased, leading to faster results.
How Often Should I Workout on the Power Plate?
The recommended amount is 2-3 times a week. A 30 minute session at Lotus includes 5 minute stretch, 15 minute strength/core workout followed by 10 minute massage and relaxation . All 3 components are important to the regeneration and recovery of the muscles with the added bonus of feeling amazing!
Can Anyone Use the Power Plate?
Before beginning an exercise regime on the Power Plate, you must first consult with your doctor to get clearance for acclerated vibration training. Those with epilepsy, acute thrombosis, severe osteoporosis, severe cardiovascular disease, pacemakers, cancer, metal implants, detached retina, or pregnant women are not advised to use the Power Plate. Other contraindications may apply.
What Do I Wear?
Comfortable, loose-fitting exercise clothes are recommended. Wear sneakers, although some exercises, especially stretching and massage, may be performed in bare feet.
Courteney Cox, Actress
"The Power Plate has dramatically changed my workout. I know that every muscle in my body is being ignited in ways that you can't do with regular training. Its uses are limitless. I love this machine!"
Sting, Lead Singer, Sting and The Police
"The band must be in peak physical form to withstand the demands of daily travel and nightly performances. The Power Plate is that key component in helping us feel and look our best. Taking it on the road made a big difference."
